St. Louis Gateway Arch
The Gateway Arch is the crown jewel of St. Louis and also our nation's tallest monument reaching 630 feet. The Arch is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial along with the Museum of Westward Expansion and St. Louis' Old Courthouse. During a nationwide competition in 1947-48, architect Eero Saarinen's inspired design was chosen as a perfect monument to the spirit of the western pioneers. Today the Arch symbolizes the spirit of the City of St. Louis, the Gateway to The West.
The University City Loop
Whether you are a first time visitor to St. Louis or you have lived here for your entire life, you really need to visit "The Loop" in University City. The Loop is actually a six block area with over 100 specialty shops, restaurants, galleries, live music and much, much more. Make sure you visit the "St. Louis Walk of Fame" where over 100 famous St. Louisans have been honored with brass stars on individual brass plaques. You might be surprised at some of the famous people from this great town.
Grant's Farm
Grant's Farm is a 281 acre wildlife preserve located just south of the city limits of St. Louis. The farm is owned and operated by Anheuser Busch and offers a wonderful way to spend a hot summer day with the family. Grant's Farm takes it's name from our 18th President, Ulysses S. Grant, who farmed a portion of the 281 acres in the 1850's. Today the grounds are home of the Busch family estate, Grant's Cabin, the Clydesdale Stables, the Deer Park, and a petting zoo with scheduled shows daily.
St. Louis Science Center
The St. Louis Science Center is always an excellent place to take the family and is certainly an educational experience for all. The Science Center has exhibits for children and adults and is a wonderful way to spend the day especially when outdoor activities might not be ideal. Like all other St. Louis cultural institutions in Forest Park, admission to the Science Center is free.
The St. Louis Zoo
The St. Louis Zoo is most definitely one of the best zoos in the country. As a matter of fact, most experts say that the St. Louis Zoo ranks second in the country, right after the San Diego Zoo. One thing that is unique about the St. Louis Zoo is that admission is free. This is most definitely a bargain considering the hundreds of animals from all around the world that call the St. Louis Zoo their home.
St. Louis Union Station
St. Louis Union Station was originally opened in 1894 but ceased operation as an active train terminal in 1978. In 1985 St. Louis Union Station was completely renovated making it the largest adaptive re-use project in the country. Today Union Station has virtually something for everyone. In addition to its historic beauty, Union Station is home to the 539 room Hyatt Regency Hotel, a ten screen movie theater, luxury offices, a lake, and a plaza for festivals, concerts, and special events.
Forest Park
New York City has Central Park and in St. Louis we have Forest Park. Located within easy access of most of the metropolitan area, Forest Park is a 1,370 acre oasis in a city where 80 percent of the land has been developed for business, industry, or residential use.
St. Louis Metrolink: Mass Transit At Its Best
With one of the best mass transit systems in the country, there is no need to fight rush hour traffic to get around in Metropolitan St. Louis. Whether you live and work in St. Louis or are just here for a visit, Metro has a means of transportation to get you to your destination without the hassle of sitting in traffic.
Ted Drewes Frozen Custard
When the weather turns warm one of the first things St. Louisans think of is Ted Drewe's frozen custard. Forget about the diet and the calories. Pack up the kids and take a ride down Historic Route 66 for one of the most sinfully delicious treats you will ever taste. If you think a trip to the local ice cream stand will suffice, think again!
The Wolf Sanctuary In Eureka
The Wild Canid Survival and Research Center, popularly known as the Wolf Sanctuary, was founded in 1971 by noted naturalist Dr. Marlin Perkins, his wife Carol, and a group of individuals concerned about the plight of canids. It is a private, nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to the preservation of the wolf and other endangered canids through education, research and captive breeding.
Busch Stadium
Busch Stadium (also referred to informally as "New Busch Stadium" or "Busch Stadium III") is the home of the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League of Major League Baseball. It replaced Busch Memorial Stadium and occupies a portion of that stadium's former footprint. Busch Stadium has been chosen by MLB to host the 2009 All-Star Game.
Edward Jones Dome
The Edward Jones Dome (more formally known as the Edward Jones Dome at America's Center) is a multi purpose stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, and home of the St. Louis Rams of the NFL. It was constructed largely to lure an NFL team back to St. Louis, and to serve as a convention center. The Dome provides multiple stadium configurations that can seat up to 70,000 people. Seating levels include: a private luxury suite level, a private club seat and luxury suite level, a concourse level (lower bowl) and terrace level (upper bowl). The dome was completed in 1995.
Scottrade Center
Scottrade Center (formerly Kiel Center and Savvis Center) is a 20,000 seat arena located in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, opened in 1994. It is nicknamed "The House that Brett Hull Built". It is the home of the NHL St. Louis Blues ice hockey team. Known for the quality of its ice (Scottrade Center was voted 2nd-best rink in a poll of NHLers, behind only Montreal's Bell Centre), the Scottrade Center is respected as one of the louder NHL arenas due to several factors including the 9-second foghorn blast after every Blue's goal followed by an organ rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In.
Gateway International Raceway
Gateway International Raceway is a race track in Madison, Illinois, USA, just minutes from Downtown St. Louis, Mo. It hosts a NASCAR Nationwide Series event and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on a 1.25 mile oval, and also has a quarter-mile drag strip that hosts an annual National Hot Rod Association event. The facilities are owned by Dover Motorsports, a group that also owns Memphis Motorsports Park, Dover International Speedway and the Nashville Superspeedway among others.
