Hawks Team Report
(Sat, 04 Sep 2010 14:30:24 PDT)
The Hawks' endless summer could get a whole lot messier in the coming weeks if Jamal Crawford delivers on his promise not to show up for training camp without a contract extension.
The NBA's reigning Sixth Man Award winner, Crawford has asked the Hawks to either give him a contract extension or trade him to another team so he can pursue his extension elsewhere.
Crawford is entering the final year of a contract that will pay him $10 million this season. He's searching for a four-year extension without taking a pay cut.
That's tough terrain, even for a player of Crawford's caliber, with the Hawks' ownership group tightening the purse strings in the wake of handing out the summer's biggest contract ($120 million to Joe Johnson) and on the verge of forking over another...

New Hawks coach makes changing offensive identity a priority
(Thu, 02 Sep 2010 16:17:00 PDT)
One thing virtually every scout around the NBA knew last season was that the Atlanta Hawks were set up to be a fairly deliberate offensive team. They were efficient and they were a pretty good scoring team, ranking 13th in the league in scoring at 101.7 points and 10th in field goal percentage (46.8). But every scout also knew just what the Hawks would do when the going got tough—dump the ball to guard Joe Johnson and clear out space for him in isolation.
